A record 125 foreign-born US citizens are billionaires living in the United States, hailing from 41 countries, according to Forbes 2025 data. These self-made immigrants account for 14% of the nation’s nearly 900 billionaire fortunes, collectively worth $1.3 trillion and controlling 18% of America’s $7.2 trillion billionaire wealth.
From the list, India now has 12 immigrant billionaires, more than any other country. Key figures include Sundar Pichai (CEO of Alphabet), Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft), and Nikesh Arora (CEO of Palo Alto Networks). Data suggests that, unlike many American billionaires who inherited wealth, 93% of immigrant billionaires are self-made, mainly in tech (53) or finance (28).
Many immigrant billionaires arrived in the US for studies and stayed. For instance, Jay Chaudhry, founder of Zscaler (cybersecurity), flew for grad school, never having been on a plane before, and became the richest Indian in America. Shahid Khan, founder of Flex-N-Gate (auto parts), arrived at 16 from Pakistan, washed dishes at $1.20/hour, and later built a business empire.
