Trump escalator, teleprompter mishaps at UN: US President Donald Trump has called for an investigation after what he called a “triple sabotage” during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. Trump took to Truth Social and claimed that the three technical problems including the escalator stoppage, teleprompter failure, and sound issues, were not accidents but attempts to undermine him.
“A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday — Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!” Trump wrote in the social media post on Wednesday, listing the incidents.
While giving his speech in New York on Tuesday morning, Trump spoke about the problems, saying, “These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.” In his post later, he also added that the audio was “completely off”.
Trump’s long and angry post about UN mishaps – Here’s what he said
Trump described the series of problems at the UN on Tuesday as deliberate and “very sinister.” He said those responsible should be arrested and claimed the Secret Service was also looking into it.
Trump insisted the incidents were not accidental but a “triple sabotage” and said the United Nations should be ashamed. He added that he was sending a letter to the UN Secretary-General demanding an immediate investigation, arguing that failures like this show why the UN has not been able to fulfill its purpose.
He said the escalator up to the main speaking area suddenly stopped, and he and Melania only avoided falling because they were holding the handrail.
“This was absolutely sabotage, as noted by a day’s earlier “post” in The London Times that said UN workers “joked about turning off an escalator. The people that did it should be arrested!” Trump said.
‘It wasn’t a coincidence’: Trump details his side of the story
He added that his teleprompter went dark while he spoke, so he had to carry on without it until it started working about 15 minutes later, and he said the speech later received strong reviews.
“I immediately thought to myself, “Wow, first the escalator event, and now a bad teleprompter. What kind of a place is this?” I then proceeded to make a Speech without a teleprompter, which kicked in about 15 minutes later. The good news is the Speech has gotten fantastic reviews,” he wrote in the post.
He further claimed that after the speech, he was told the auditorium sound was not working properly, so many world leaders couldn’t hear unless they used interpreter earpieces. He claimed that even Melania told him she hadn’t heard anything.
“This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves,” he added.
He called all three problems as a “triple sabotage” and said that he was sending a letter to the UN secretary-general demanding an immediate investigation. He concluded the post by saying, “All security tapes at the escalator should be saved, especially the emergency stop button. The Secret Service is involved. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
