Upon his arrival in Brazil for the G20 summit on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly greeted by a group of Brazilian Vedic scholars chanting Sanskrit mantras. The scholars, a diverse group of men and women of all ages, recited melodious Sanskrit shlokas in the Prime Minister’s presence, all while dressed in traditional Indian attire. PM Modi attentively listened to their harmonious recitation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday for the second leg of his three-nation tour. He is set to participate in the G20 Summit, following a “productive” visit to Nigeria.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced Modi’s arrival in Brazil, sharing images of his airport welcome on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the G20 Brazil Summit,” the MEA posted.

Modi also shared his anticipation for the summit on his X handle: “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders.” The summit will be attended by key global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden, from November 18-19.

India, a member of the G20 Troika alongside Brazil and South Africa, has played a significant role in shaping the summit’s agenda. Notably, India’s efforts last year included the historic induction of the African Union as a permanent G20 member and a successful leaders’ declaration amid the Ukraine conflict.

Modi’s arrival in Brazil follows his significant visit to Nigeria, where he held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and engaged with the Indian community.
