Mobile phone services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad remained suspended for a third consecutive day on Sunday due to ongoing unrest stemming from protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the federal capital, as reported by Geo News.
Containers are positioned at key locations such as Sri Nagar Highway, Zero Point and Faisal Avenue, while the Faizabad Interchange has been partially reopened. Punjab police officers continue to maintain a strong presence in various areas of the garrison town, enhancing security measures.
These road closures have made commuting challenging for residents of Islamabad, where trade and business activities have also been disrupted.
On Saturday, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that 11 officers from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and 120 Afghan nationals were among those arrested during the PTI protests in Islamabad.
According to ARY News, a total of 564 individuals were arrested in the crackdown, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police officers reportedly involved in the protests. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, PTI, has been organising protests against the government in both Islamabad and Lahore, with a renewed call for nationwide demonstrations starting October 1 to advocate for judicial independence.
