PAK PM Imran Khan Jail, Cipher Case: In a massive blow to Imran Khan, a special court in Rawalpindi on Tuesday sentenced 10-year jail for former Pakistan Prime Minister in the state secret case. Along with Khan, his close aide and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also been awarded the prison for same period. According to reports, the verdict was announced by special court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has confirmed the development. The party also said that it will look for legal resolution in the case. It should be noted that the General Elections will be held in Pakistan on February 8 next month. In a long post in Urdu, Khan termed the cipher case as ‘not a trial but a fixed match.’
Khan said that the Cipher case has been nullified by the Islamabad High Court twice. In both instances, the trial was deemed to be in violation of the Constitution and the law, leading to orders for a retrial, the ex-PM said. “Furthermore, the Supreme Court granted me bail in this case, emphasizing that the entire foundation of the case was constructed on falsehoods, coercion, conspiracy, and deceit,” Khan further added.
What is cipher case of Pakistan?
The cipher case revolves around a document, believed to be a diplomatic cable referred to as the cipher. During a public rally on March 27, 2022, Khan brandished this cipher, alleging that it implicated the United States and served as “evidence” of an “international conspiracy” aimed at destabilizing his government.
