One person died and 24 others sustained injuries on Sunday after a gunman in Ohio opened fire during a street party on Sunday. The city police have requested witnesses to come forward to give any information regarding the incident.
As per media reports, the police responded to a 911 call that informed about the gunfires in the area of Kelly Avenue and 8th Avenue Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding said, “We will bring those responsible to justice, and we need the help of our community to do that. For those who have information about this horrific shooting – we need you to speak up in order to prevent further violence and retaliation. This can be done anonymously,”
Around 7 people with gunshot wounds were admitted to hospital and at least two wounded victims remained in critical condition.
The police have also announced reward prices to anyone with information leading to the arrest of a suspect by three agencies: $5,000 from Summit County Crime Stoppers, $7,500 from the U.S. Marshal’s Service and up to $10,000 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives
The police investigation revealed two handguns and over 35 bullet shells at the scene of the outdoor party where the shooting occurred, Harding reported. Local hospitals informed emergency dispatchers shortly afterwards that multiple gunshot victims were arriving in their emergency departments, according to police.
Before the gunfire erupted, there was a street party in the area. An unnamed witness at the scene described hundreds of people enjoying themselves, with everyone wearing white T-shirts and “women dancing on top of vehicles.”
