The White House on Sunday (April 6) released a video showcasing the deportation of undocumented migrants, accompanied by the song “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye” playing in the background.

The video comes amid renewed focus on immigration under President Donald Trump’s administration. Shortly after returning to office, Trump re-emphasised the issue of illegal immigration, signing several executive orders aimed at expanding deportations and tightening border controls.

The clip quickly sparked outrage across social media platforms. One user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “It would be great if you guys stopped with the dehumanising posts!” Another remarked, “Why so much show off? Just deport them.”

‘Hands Off!’ protests erupt nationwide

The video’s release coincided with widespread protests across all 50 US states. Branded as “Hands Off!” demonstrations, the events were held in over 1,200 locations on April 5 (local time), according to ABC News. Organised by more than 150 groups—including civil rights advocates, labor unions, LGBTQ+ organisations, veterans and election reform activists—the protests were largely peaceful, with no immediate reports of arrests.

Demonstrators voiced opposition to various Trump administration policies, including plans to reduce the size of government, implement sweeping conservative reforms, and pressure international allies on trade and border issues. These moves have caused concern on Wall Street and contributed to market volatility.

Protesters also condemned efforts to close Social Security field offices, scale back protections for transgender individuals, deport migrants, and slash funding for key health programs, according to the Associated Press. The presence of billionaire advisor Elon Musk in the administration has also drawn criticism from various activist groups.
