Imprisoned ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has refused to undergo polygraph and voice matching tests.

These tests were part of an investigation by Lahore police in connection with a dozen cases linked to the unprecedented May 9 riots in 2023.

On Tuesday, a 12-member forensic team reached Adiala Jail to conduct the polygraph test on the former cricketer-turned-politician.

In Pakistan, the May 9 riots last year were triggered across the country after the Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Khan (71) was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a 190-million-pound corruption case. Since August 2023, Khan has faced more than 200 cases and has been in prison.

The Express Tribune reported that the Lahore police team, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, reached the jail premises to run the tests. The cops were accompanied by experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), said the report.

Khan answered the questions of the cops for 15 minutes. However, he declined to undergo the polygraph test and other tests, the Nation newspaper reported.

Following their visit, the officers and PFSA experts briefed Lahore DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar on the lack of cooperation by the ex-PM.

During the May 9 demonstrations, the Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf workers and supporters allegedly attacked and vandalised military installations including the General Headquarters as well as monuments.
