Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu levelled serious allegations against Iran in a bombshell interview on Sunday (US time). Ahead of the G7 Summit in Canada, Netanyahu claimed that the country it is currently entangled with on the battlefield plotted two assassination attempts on US President Donald Trump.
Describing Trump as the biggest threat to Iran, he told Fox News’ Brett Baier, “These people who chant, ‘Death to America,’ tried to assassinate President Trump twice.” While justifying his own country’s attacks on Iran as the back-and-forth missile exchange continued well into the third day, Netanyahu said, “Do you want these people to have nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them to your cities? Of course not. So we’re defending ourselves, but we’re also defending the world.”
Israeli prime minister says Iran was behind Trump assassination attempts
Caught off-guard by Netanyahu’s claims, the Fox News anchor attempted to double-check what he had just said about Iran possibly orchestrating failed near-fatal attacks on Trump. “Do you have intel that the assassination attempts on President Trump were directly from Iran?” he questioned the Israeli PM.
He responded: “Through proxies, yes. Through their intel, yes. They want to kill him.” Moreover, Netanyahu added. “He’s a decisive leader. He never took the path that others took to try to bargain with them in a way that is weak.”
In addition to his aggressive claims about the alleged Trump assassination attempts, Netanyahu insisted that Iran targetted him as well. “Look, they also tried to kill me, but I’m his junior partner. They understand that President Trump is a great threat to Iran’s plans to weaponise nuclear weapons and use them,” he said.

Netanyahu’s allegations align with Trump’s statement
Last year, Thomas Matthew Crooks and Ryan Routh made headlines for initiating separate assassination attempts during the then-ongoing election campaign. Akin to Netanyahu, Trump also suggested last year that Iran may have been behind a couple of attempts on his life.
“There have been two assassination attempts on my life that we know of, and they may or may not involve, but possibly do, Iran, but I don’t really know,” the POTUS said in September 2024. Contrary to the politicians’ statements, American security agencies never substantiated these claims with solid evidence.
Netanyahu’s accusations against Iran come to the forefront around the same time as anonymous US officials telling Reuters that Trump vetoed an Israeli plan to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. One of them was quoted saying, “Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership.
The Israeli PM slammed the report, saying, “There’s so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I’m not going to get into that.”
