An Indian restaurant was targeted in London on Friday evening (local time), according to BBC. In what is being labelled a suspected arson attack, authorities revealed that at least five people were left injured at the east London establishment called ‘Indian Aroma.’

In the aftermath of the suspected attack on the London restaurant located on Woodford Avenue in Gants Hill, Ilford, three women and two men were taken to hospital for medical aid. Of those victims, a man and woman were in a life-threatening condition.

Two suspects have since been arrested in connected with the incident. These include a 15-year-old boy and 54-year-old man, who were eventually taken into custody on suspicion of arson with intent to danger life. Although the two arson suspects remain in custody, the Met Police has yet to determine what series of events led to the fire incident at Indian Aroma on Friday.

One arson victim was ‘fully on fire’

The blaze engulfed the place at about 9 PM BST, reportedly damaging part of the ground floor. The flames were eventually extinguished by 10:30 PM. According to a first-hand witness, BBC London shared that a man was seen “running like a fireball,” as he “was fully on fire.” As per the witness’ account, the injured person “had a Deliveroo bag,” while other victims were customers at the Indian eatery.

Another man said he encountered an injured male victim whose “whole body was burnt.” Moreover, a local divulged that he had come across three “severely burned” individuals. Emergency services eventually came to their rescue and gave them oxygen.

The victims are yet to be officially identified. Except the five people who got hurt in the process, nine others successfully exited the building before the arrival of emergency services.
