Indian-American Cancer physician Kamal Menghrajani has been included in the 15 “remarkably gifted, passionate, and accomplished” individuals who have been chosen for the 2023-24 class of White House Fellows.
As a Fellow, she will be working with senior White House Staff, Cabinet Secretaries and other top administration officials for a year. Menghrajani is placed at the Office of Science and Technology Policy and treats patients with leukemia.
The White House Fellows programme was founded in 1964 and offers young leaders a chance to work with the Federal government at the highest levels.

Announcing her admission, Menghrajani wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that US President Joe Biden announced her appointment. “As the first oncologist ever selected, I’m excited to lead, serve, and innovate for our patients in this new role with the Cancer Moonshot and Health Outcomes teams at White House Office of Science & Technology Policy,” she tweeted.
She is the only Indian-American among the 15 Fellows.
During her time at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Menghrajani conducted cancer research and focused on early diagnosis and prevention. She also led the efforts for health for vulnerable populations in global contexts, including Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Uganda.

Menghrajani is also an entrepreneur and has co-founded startups for addressing the unmet needs in cancer treatment and deploying AI for rapid cancer diagnosis. Additionally, she helped the non-profit Nourish International grow. The non-profit engages with student leaders as social entrepreneurs in international development work.
