Isak Andic, the visionary founder of Spanish fashion giant Mango, has passed away in a tragic accident, the company announced on Saturday. He was 71. The accident occurred in the Salnitre de Collbató caves, a popular tourist destination near Barcelona. Catalonia’s regional police confirmed that Andic fell down a ravine over 320 feet deep. Emergency services recovered his body on Saturday afternoon.

Mango CEO Toni Ruiz released a heartfelt statement honoring Andic’s immense contributions to the company and his enduring legacy. “He dedicated his life to Mango, leaving an indelible mark thanks to his strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and unwavering commitment to the values that shaped our company,” Ruiz stated. He added that Andic’s death leaves a “huge void” and vowed to honor his memory by ensuring Mango remains the company Andic envisioned.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences in a post on X, acknowledging Andic’s role in turning Mango into a global fashion icon. “All my affection, and recognition for your great work and business vision, which has turned this Spanish brand into a world reference in fashion,” Sanchez wrote.

Andic founded Mango in Barcelona in 1984. The brand grew to become one of Europe’s leading fashion groups, with stores in over 120 markets. In 2023, Mango reported sales exceeding $3.2 billion. The company operates 40 stores in the US, with plans to expand by opening 20 more next year.

According to Forbes, Andic had a net worth of $4.5 billion and served as Mango’s non-executive chairman.
