Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s adviser on political and public affairs stirred controversy on Saturday by alleging that jailed Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was plotting to foment political chaos from inside Adiala Jail.

Rana Sanaullah, while speaking on Geo News’ ‘Naya Pakistan’ program said that Imran Khan had been banned by the court from holding political meetings within the jail premises.

Khan (71) is not authorised to orchestrate plans for chaos while imprisoned, said Sanaullah. He points to unspecified evidence in possession of authorities that supposedly substantiates these claims.

Sanaullah clarified that he does not have audio or video evidence, but those responsible for security inside the jail do.

Sharif’s adviser’s remarks followed complaints from leaders of the PTI party, who asserted they were denied access to Imran Khan at Adiala Jail despite waiting for several hours.

Sanaullah also criticised Khan’s party’s decision to hold a rally in Islamabad during the holy month of Muharram, suggesting it was aimed at sowing political turmoil, as reported by Geo News.

Tehreek-e-Insaf’s desire to hold a public rally in Muharram is unsuitable and can lead to political chaos, remarked Sanaullah.

Earlier on Saturday, the Tehreek-e-Insaf party cancelled its Islamabad demonstration after the federal capital’s chief commissioner withdrew the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event in Tarnol.

“Enemy countries aim to sow anarchy in Pakistan through PTI,” Sanaullah added.

Regarding foreign aid allegedly received by Khan’s party, Sharif’s adviser indicated a willingness to disclose evidence if the federal cabinet decided to make such information public, reported Geo News.
