Eight people were killed and 17 others injured after a brutal stabbing attack at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in the eastern Chinese city of Wuxi on Saturday night. The incident occurred at around 6:30 PM local time in Yixing, a smaller city within Wuxi, according to local police.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
Authorities have detained the suspect, a 21-year-old male student identified by his surname Xu. Police reports indicate that Xu had failed his examinations and was unable to graduate. Dissatisfied with his internship pay, Xu decided to vent his frustrations through the violent attack, police stated.
Videos circulating on social media depicted chaotic scenes, with injured individuals lying on the street as bystanders rushed to provide assistance. The images captured the immediate aftermath of the tragic event, highlighting the severity of the attack.
This incident marks the second deadly attack within a week. Earlier, a man drove his car into a crowd at a sports facility in Zhuhai, resulting in 35 casualties. Additionally, China has witnessed several other random attacks in recent months. In October, a knife attack in Beijing left five children wounded, and in September, a knife-wielding man killed three and injured 15 others in a Shanghai supermarket. The motives in these cases often involved personal grievances.
The string of violent incidents has raised concerns about public safety, with authorities urging heightened vigilance and community support.
