Eleven people lost their lives in a train accident on Thursday in China’s southern province of Yunnan. The crash also left two others injured. The incident happened when a train testing seismic equipment hit a group of railway workers who were on the tracks at a curved section inside Luoyang Town Railway Station in Kunming, according to a Reuters report.

The test train numbered 55537, which was being used to check seismic equipment, crashed into a group of construction workers who had entered the railway track at a curved section near Luoyangzhen Station in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Railway officials and local authorities launched an emergency response immediately after the accident to carry out rescue operations. The injured workers are currently receiving medical treatment, and train services at the station have now resumed, as per a report by South China Morning Post.

Kunming’s railway authority later posted a message on social media expressing condolences to the victims and their families. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
