Amassing into a sudden chaos, a car ploughed into celebrating fans after the Liverpool title win at the Premier League Soccer title. Hospitalising 27 and gravely injuring 50, the police has arrested the 53-year-old accused who is believed to be the driver of the car that rammed into the crowd at the Liverpool City Centre. A widely circulated video on social media showed a grey minivan strike at least one pedestrian and then veer into a larger crowd, carving a path through the group and pushing bodies along the street before coming to a stop.

Eyewitnesses reacted only last minute as they dived out of the way to save their lives. The van did not seem to stop until the crowd surrounded it and started smashing its windows. One child and one adult were in a serious condition and four people trapped under the vehicle had to be released by firefighters as per Reuters reports. It was reported that the collision happened about 10 minutes after the bus carrying the Liverpool FC team had passed by.

“They were just innocent people”

Eyewitness, Harry Rashid was present at the site with family at the Liverpool celebration. He initially only heard the car hitting the celebrating crowd only to later realise what had actually happened. “But then he put his foot down again and just ploughed through the rest of them, he just kept going,” Rashid said. “It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people.” Rashid said it looked deliberate. Attending with his wife and two daughters, he said it was a rather traumatic incident that smashed more than “half a dozen people down” as per another eyewitness account.

The team in a short statement said its thoughts and prayers were with those affected. The Premier League issued a similar statement expressing shock at the “appalling events in Liverpool.”
