A bomb blast at Quetta railway station in southwestern Pakistan on Saturday has killed at least 21 individuals and injured 46 others. As of now, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A explosion occurred at the Quetta railway station, just as passengers were gathering on the platform for the scheduled departure of the Jaffar Express to Peshawar. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Baloch, initial investigations suggest the blast may have been the result of a suicide bombing.
The explosion, which occurred near the station’s booking office, killed at least 21 people, with officials warning that the death toll could rise as more victims are found. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Rescue teams and law enforcement responded swiftly, securing the area and transporting the injured and deceased to Civil Hospital Quetta, said provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind. An emergency was declared at the hospital, and additional medical staff were called in to assist. So far, 46 people have been reported injured.
The blast also caused significant damage to the platform’s roof, and its impact was felt across various parts of the city. The explosion was heard miles away from the station.
Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti, condemned the attack, calling it a “horrific act targeting innocent civilians.” He emphasized that terrorists are increasingly attacking vulnerable groups, including women, children, and workers, and vowed to pursue those responsible with full force. An immediate investigation into the attack has been ordered.
