Though completely out of touch from any physical reality, AI actress Tilly Norwood is poised to be the “next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman,” producer Eline Van Der Velden told Broadcast International. Her comments are especially doing rounds at an auspicious time for AI talent studio Xicoia, a spin-off from the the AI production studio Particle6 the multi-faceted industry creative founded.
Norwood, who is Xicoia’s first creation, has especially become the focus of potential future projects. Tilly was the centre of attention this weekend at a Zurich Summit panel where the company’s boss formally spoke at lengths about the no-flesh-or-blood actress, who could soon be a major threat to actual, real-world actors.
Actors already not a fan on their AI competition
The Hollywood shakeup that could be an alarming blow for many has seemingly already set in motion as Deadline reported on Sunday that that numerous Hollywood talent agents are queueing up behind the AI invention and have shown interest in signing her. Quite a few movie talents have already reacted to the forthcoming repercussions of the move, which would essentially sideline living and breathing aspiring young actors.
“Hope all actors repped by the agent that does this, drop their a$$. How gross, read the room,” Melissa Barrera wrote on her Instagram Stories. Similarly, Mara Wilson fumed on IG, “And what about the hundreds of living young women whose faces were composited together to make her? You couldn’t hire any of them?” Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale also briefly called out: “No.”
While at the Zurich Summit, Van Der Velden revealed in a Deadline interview that despite initial apprehensions tied to Tilly’s creation, they are now on path to announcing which agency will represent her in the next few months.
AI actress Tilly Norwood already has a comedy sketch
Ahead of her actual launch in any movies or formal projects, Tilly Norwood briefly appeared in Particle6’s comedy sketch video called “AI Commissioner.”
“Can’t believe it… my first ever role is live! I star in ‘AI Commissioner,’ a new comedy sketch that playfully explores the future of TV development produced by the brilliant team at Particle6 Productions,” Norwood wrote on her Facebook page. “I may be AI generated, but I’m feeling very real emotions right now. I am so excited for what’s coming next!”
Van der Velden, on the other hand, attributed Tilly’s creation towards movie and TV business’ budget and economic issues. “People are realising that their creativity doesn’t need to be boxed in by a budget – there are no constraints creatively and that’s why AI can really be a positive,” she told Broadcast International. ““It’s just about changing people’s viewpoint.”
In a LinkedIn post, the Particle6 boss issued another controversial statement, saying that audiences were more concerned about the story and not about the star having a “pulse.” As per Van der Velden’s side of the tale, Norwood, who is being deemed the first AI movie star, is a crucial adding to what she calls the “age of synthetic actors.”
Despite Van der Velden’s troubling comments on LinkedIn, the AI star’s official Instagram also issued her clarification, stating, “She is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art,” or “a new tool.”
