History repeating itself has now translated well into viral trends. Over a week after , Polish CEO Piotr Szczerek owned up to his “huge mistake” as he made contentious headlines for snatching a signed merchandise from a young boy at the US Open, a similar debacle unfolded at Miami’s LoanDeport Park. The face behind the fiasco has since been contentiously dubbed the ‘Phillies Karen,’ ‘Baseball Karen’ or even “Krazy Karen’ on social media.

A new viral moment altogether captured a young fan’s special moment being shattered at the Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins showdown on Friday, September 5 (US time). As Harrison Bader hit a home run, the ball flew into the stands, leading a father to grab and walk back to his original spot where his son was waiting for him. The man dropped the ball in the young boy’s glove, as the clip eventually snapped the duo sharing an affectionate moment.

‘Phillies Karen’ spoils the father-son moment at Phillies game

The happy moment was only short-lived. While the father-son duo was hugging each other, another fan, the very woman now being called the ‘Phillies Karen,’ covered the distance, following the man to his seat. She is then seen startling the dad in the picture who never saw it coming. Grabbing his arm, she appears to launch into a furious tirade, presumably arguing with the man for securing the home run ball that came their way.

More development on the front has now further shed light on the conversation that took place between the enraged Phillies fan. As per the viral footage gaining numbers on X, the upset woman told the father, “That was ours!” Insinuating that the man walked over a few spots to where she was standing to catch a hold of the ball, she continued her accusations, “No, you took it from me! You took it from me! That was in my hands.”

Merely seconds later, the man gave in while attempting to settle the discordant moment, preventing it from turning into something bigger and worse. He took the ball out of the young boy’s glove and handed it to the woman. The clip even showed other fans at the stadium calling her out as “Karen” there and then.

‘Phillies Karen’ already ID’d? No confirmation yet on who took away the home run ball

With the footage of the confrontation going viral online, Internet sleuths jumped on the opportunity to identify the irate woman in the video. Netizens already firmly believed that her name Cheryl Richardson-Wagner. As a result, some ended up dragging a woman by the same name into the mess.

However, the particular individual has since refuted the claims, speaking out against the ‘Phillies Karen’ identity on social media after the name blew up on X. Refuting the accusations, a Cheryl Richardson-Wagner took to her Facebook profile to issue a clarification on the matter. Insisting that she was actually a Red Sox fan and not a Phillies supporter, she said in a self-deprecatory post, “OK everyone… I’m NOT the crazy Philly Mom (but I sure would love be as thin as she is and move as fast.”

An X user, who claimed to have reached out to the woman, got so fixated on the issue. However, ultimately resorted to deleting the tweet. Alleged pictures of Cheryl have since also popped up on social media, offering more visual proof that she wasn’t the woman in the viral baseball game altercation.

While she stated her case of innocence in the matter, another woman with the same name as since become the new target of social media harassment.

“Cheryl-Richardson Wager has denied being the bat shit crazy lady that stole a baseball from a young boy at the Philadelphia Phillies game. There is however another Cheryl Wagner that looks like the suspect,” a user by the name Anthony Sanchez wrote on X. Sharing the supposed woman’s picture from Facebook, he added, “I am recommending that all Cheryl Wagners are rounded up until this is figured out.”

Phillies’ Harrison Bader comes to the young boy’s rescue

While the jury is still out on who the real culprit is, a stadium employee rose to the occasion by bringing out a gift bag for the young fan who was left without a souvenir. According to another clip shared by an attendee, the employee asked, “I’m so sorry. You okay?” The positive outcome inevitably rounded up huge applause from fellow fans in the stands.

On top of the first act of redemption, the young boy even ended up meeting the star athlete who’d shot the home run in the first place. In a post-game interaction, the centre fielder not only met with the fan, but also gave away a signed bat to him.
