Being on dating apps these days doesn’t just risk ghosting or being cheated on; it also exposes you to matches who may try to scam you out of your hard-earned money. And, a man who matched with a girl on Tinder ended up meeting the same fate. He went on a date with the girl, who tried to extort Rs 7,000 from him. The man shared his experience on Reddit, along with pictures as proof.
‘Tinder restaurant scam’
“Tinder restaurant scam at Karkardooma,” wrote the man who lives in Noida’s Sector 59.
He added, “I talked to a girl through a dating app and she invited me to meet me at Karkardooma. Then she and her friend took me to a restaurant, and while I was viewing the menu, they ordered 4-5 items without even looking at the menu.”
Rs 7,000 extortion attempt
When the man, who was new to the restaurant, picked up the menu and calculated the price of the items her date and the friend she brought along ordered, he was in for a shock. The amount totalled Rs 7,000. “So, I got up and went to the receptionist and told him to cancel all the orders.”
That’s when, he said, the girls quickly exited the restaurant, and when he tried to go after them, apparently to confront, bouncers stopped him. “They forced me to pay the amount, but I negotiated and paid Rs 1000.”
“Then one person from the restaurant escorted me to the main road. But I decided to go back, and there I caught those girls over there,” he added. But it didn’t end there.
‘I was attacked, kicked’
According to his own admission, when he called the police, the restaurant staff “kept on interrupting in between and suggested to do a settlement”. He also said that one of the guys from the restaurant paid him Rs 500, and her date gave the remaining Rs 500.
“I was recording the videos of the girls for proof and for my safety, and talking to PCR with another phone. Then, suddenly, a guy came from the restaurant’s side and attacked me and kicked me several times. I also recorded that guy’s face,” he recalled.
The man also shared the restaurant’s name, which is Blue Moon Cafe, and added that it is not on Google Maps.
He further said, “The actual photo which she shared is different. When I saw her, I didn’t think much and just wanted to eat some food and get out of there.”
‘Same cafe, 5th story’: Redditors
Responding to his Reddit post, one person said, “Damn! I was scammed at the same cafe with a bill of Rs 1,1000 in 2023.”
“I am hearing this story for the 5th time now. Same cafe. Same story. It’s all out there. Please do some research about the place at least,” suggested another. To this, the man who got scammed said that he is new to the city.
A third commented, “Both girls look very shady. The way they are dressed and acting, I mean, in which angle do they look like someone who wants to date?”
