Jason Sudeikis has officially confirmed that the beloved comedy Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season, but with a significant shift in direction. Speaking on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, Sudeikis revealed that Ted Lasso is indeed getting another season, and this time, Ted will be coaching a women’s soccer team.
“We’re writing Season 4 now. That’s the official word,” Sudeikis, who also serves as an executive producer, told the Kelce brothers on Friday, sharing the exciting news with fans. While he didn’t divulge many details, he teased that Ted will take on a new challenge in the form of a women’s team. When pressed further by Travis Kelce about whether Ted would return to the United States or stay in the UK, Sudeikis playfully dodged the question, saying, “Yeah, that’s too many questions.”

The 49-year-old actor also clarified that Season 4 will feature a fresh premise. As per NYT Sudeikis in a statement confirmed the return of the show, and said “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.” This cryptic teaser suggests a journey of personal growth and unexpected turns for the characters, who are returning to face new challenges.
On social media, AppleTV+ also shared a cryptic post hinting at the new season with a photo of a stadium seat marked with the number “4” and the words “Ted Lasso.” The official Ted Lasso Twitter account (now known as X) also resurfaced for the first time since October 2023, with a tweet in Ted’s characteristic voice: “Finally found the dang password to this thing. Sorry y’all. What’d I miss?”
Though the show concluded with its third season in 2023, Sudeikis and co-creator Bill Lawrence had long been evasive about whether this would truly be the end. “You can ask anybody that wrote on the show, or acted on the show, or produced the show, and we will all say the same thing, which is, that’s up to Jason Sudeikis,” Lawrence said in August 2024, leaving the door open for future developments.
For now, fans can look forward to Season 4 with an exciting new dynamic for Ted Lasso and the beloved characters of AFC Richmond. Whether the existing cast, including Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt), Cristo Fernández (Danny Rojas), Juno Temple (Keely Jones), and Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), will return is still uncertain, as Sudeikis did not provide specifics on casting.

Ted Lasso, which initially premiered on Apple TV+ in 2020, was an instant hit around the world. The show’s uplifting “fish-out-of-water” tale followed an American football coach, Ted Lasso, as he adapted to the demands of leading an English football (soccer) team, AFC Richmond, with barely an inkling of the sport. The series was critically well-received and garnered many awards, such as more than 20 Emmy nominations over three seasons, and took home several awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
As for what comes next, it’s obvious that Ted Lasso has plenty to give, and with a new season in the works, viewers are looking forward to seeing how this beloved series continues to unfold. Whether Ted’s next endeavor takes him to victories with a women’s soccer team or delves into greater character arcs, one thing’s certain—the world is hungry for more of the kindness, humor, and hope that Ted Lasso has become synonymous with.
