‘Take extra time, health comes first’

The appreciation post was shared on the Reddit community “Indian Workplace”. As per the screenshots, the conversation begins with the employee greeting his boss. When the boss asks what he is up to, the employee replies that he isn’t feeling well and needs some time before joining work. “I need some time. I’ll be on the system, not quite well, but can work. Can we connect around 12 pm for a standup?” his message reads.

The manager responded by saying that it was alright and that the employee can ping him whenever he is ready to join. “Physically or mentally, if I may ask?” the manager followed up with a question.

The employee responded, “Mentally mostly. It was since the meeting yesterday. I will handle.”

“Is it about work? If not, then I won’t pry,” the manager went on to ask. The employee clarified that it was not work-related.

The manager advised them to prioritise their well-being, saying, “There is quite some work for today, but if you need to take some extra time, feel free to take it. Health comes first.”

The employee assured him that he could work, adding, “…just need to prepare myself before I start the day.”

Another added, “I have taken time off last 3 days due to my mental state not being in the right place. I’m alone in my home. My Manager calls me everyday twice checking if I’m alright and if I’m having food on time. He even offered sending food from his house. I want to be like him.”

“That’s so sweet!” read a third comment.
