Despite all the MAGA hate coming for Superman’s neck, the 2025 James Gunn reboot is doing wonders at the box office. Releasing on July 11, the DC Universe’s first feature surpassed $320 million on the domestic box office, while amassing nearly $560 million on the worldwide theatrical scene, as of August 5, according to The Numbers website.
Even after proving its worth, with certain reviews noting its use of “empathy as a weapon against modern conflicts,” the definitive superhero film has been derogatorily branded as “woke” time and time again. Perhaps, one of the most ironic attackers of the film was someone who wore the red cape himself at one point.
Ex-Superman star Dean Cain to join ICE ‘ASAP’
Former Superman actor Dean Cain, who flew high in the ’90s TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventure of Superman, recently pushed out a recruitment video, notifying his fans that he will be joining the ranks of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement “ASAP.” The conservative actor previously even red-flagged Gunn’s political remarks about the definitive superhero film being “the story of America,” and the character himself being “an immigrant.”
Coming out the Fox News segment hosted by Jesse Watters, a journalist who said that the symbol on Superman’s costume pointed to the brutal gang MS13, Cain addressed his video post.

The outspoken Donald Trump supporter said, “I put out a recruitment video yesterday, I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police office, I wasn’t part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy. So now I’ve spoken with some officials over at ICE, and I will be sworn in as an ICE agent, ASAP.”
Urging others to join ICE, he noted how the US is “built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular.” He further encouraged how becoming a member of the organisation was “the right thing” to do given the country’s “broken immigration system.” The former Superman star even went on to call Trump as “one of the most empathetic, wonderful, generous people you’ll ever meet.”
In a previous conversation with TMZ, he called out, “How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?” Cain went on to acknowledge Superman as an “immigrant,” especially since he’s an alien.
However, he also added, “The ‘American way’ is immigrant friendly, tremendously immigrant friendly. But there are rules … You can’t come in saying: ‘I want to get rid of all the rules in America, because I want it to be more like Somalia.’ Well that doesn’t work, because you had to leave Somalia to come here … There have to be limits, because we can’t have everybody in the United States. We can’t have everybody, society will fail. So there have to be limits.”
Superman ‘immigrant’ debate swings back into action
Dean Cain’s ICE cries at a time when the Trump government is keen on enhancing immigration crackdown in the nation prompted a flurry reactions. Many still couldn’t process the possibility of a DC Comics actor pulling up to deport people. In light of the David Corenswet-starrer Superman breaking records these past months, many even turned back to an episode of Tom Welling’s Smallville that also sought to tackle the immigration debate to some extent.

Journalists affiliated with Fox News, among other MAGA and Trump supporters, tried their best to rain down on the latest comic book movie’s parade, especially after Gunn‘s “immigrant” remarks. A similar debate kicked off on social media once again as many couldn’t digest the news of Dean Cain announcing his ICE appointment.
“Dean Cain would deport Superman,” wrote PatriotTakes (a page dedicated to “exposing right-wing extremism), pointing out the irony of a Superman possibly deport the very character given his literal alien status. Someone else saw the situation as a twisted reality wherein “Superman just applied for a job with LuthorCorp.”
Somebody else quipped, “Cain styling himself as Injustice Superman.” Yet another user wrote, “Does he think deporting immigration will bring back his failed career?”

Many even switched to profanities, telling him to “eat Kryptonite b**ch.” A netizen added, “imagine playing a character that’s supposed to bring justice to and unite communities just to say something stupid like this.”
“What most people don’t know? In the 1940s, Superman comics literally featured him fighting corrupt politicians and standing up for immigrants. Wild how the symbol flips with time…..” read another comment. Someone else wrote, “For someone who acted in a superman he has no idea what the whole point of the character is about.”
In a separate comment, a user went on decode how Dean Cain had become the “real Homelander,” the leading antagonist of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys series – often seen as an evil alteration of Superman’s character.

Dean Cain is the first guy to play Superman that is now legally able to assist in the deportation of Superman.
