Mumbai witnessed temperatures climbing to 36.2°C on Monday, compounded by oppressive humidity levels of 78%. A section of road near the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters appeared to have melted, drawing attention to both the severity of the heatwave and potential lapses in infrastructure quality.

In Jalgaon, the mercury touched a blistering 42.5°C — the highest recorded temperature in Maharashtra this season — as heatwave conditions intensified across the state.

Yellow alert issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, cautioning residents about the risk of moderate heat-related health issues. According to IMD’s forecast, the city will experience a clear sky on Wednesday, April 9, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 36°C.

How did social media react?

The melted road triggered strong reactions online. One X user quipped, “Till now rain used to show us the reality, now heat is also joining in to expose. But again govt will do patch-up.”

Another sarcastically added, “It should melt the BMC,” while a third joked, “Full corruption… Thane ki riksha wala doing full corruption 😂😂😂.”
