A software professional recently shared on Reddit his experience of resigning just nine days after joining a remote DevOps role at a small startup, after securing a more stable and promising offer from a multinational company (MNC). Despite earning 14 LPA at the startup, he decided to switch to a Software Engineer role at a UK-based bank offering 15 LPA, citing career growth and work-life balance as the main motivators.

Seeking Stability and Growth

“I didn’t want to rush, so I spoke with multiple people — friends and senior managers from Nvidia, Amazon, Zeta, Nutanix — and literally every single one of them told me ‘bhai, take this.’ Money difference might not be huge, but career trajectory and quality of life will be,” he wrote. He explained that the new role offered a hybrid work model in Bangalore, proper MNC exposure, and better opportunities in software engineering compared to his DevOps assignment at the startup.

The professional admitted feeling conflicted about leaving a company so soon after joining. “Honestly, I’m kinda overwhelmed. It feels weird to put down papers after just 9 days of joining, but I know how much I struggled when I was jobless, and I don’t want to miss this shot,” he said. He also noted that negotiations at the startup had been stressful, with HR initially offering a lower CTC than his previous salary.

A Message of Perseverance

Sharing his broader journey, he encouraged others facing job struggles to persist. “Just wanted to share my journey here — if anyone else is struggling, just hang in there. Sometimes things click in the weirdest ways.” He highlighted the importance of perseverance, noting that despite appearing for over 30 interviews and facing multiple rejections, opportunities eventually aligned in his favor.

The Reddit post has since received hundreds of responses from users seeking guidance and inspiration, with the author making an effort to reply to questions and give back to the tech community that supported him.
