A dating app CEO found himself unexpectedly dealing with heartbreak on Tuesday after an employee sought a ‘short break’. The candid leave request explained that they were unable to focus on work due to a tragic breakup — sparking extensive social media discussion about Gen Z work ethics. Jasveer Singh also explained in a now-viral social media post that he had granted the request “without a second thought”.
“Got the most honest leave application yesterday. Gen Z doesn’t do filters!” the CEO of Knot Dating wrote on X.
Singh shared a screenshot of the email sent by his employee explaining the nearly two-week leave request. He also added in a later comment that he had greenlit the break instantly “without any questions”.
“I recently had a breakup and haven’t been able to focus on work. I need a short break. I’m working from home today, so I’d like to take leave from 28th to the 8th,” the short email explained.
The incident has left many on social media amused while others voiced hope that the heartbroken employee had received his break.
“There people who don’t even take that many leaves for their marriage,” laughed one user.
“Gen Z breaks up and applies for leave. Millennials broke down, cried in the washroom, and still met deadlines. Gen Z treat HR like their therapist and Outlook like a diary. Next mail: Sir, Mercury is in retrograde, need WFH till it sorts itself out,” fumed another.
“I would approve it immediately; honesty plus a situation that affects their ability to work. You can tell they make a good employee with only 2 sentence’s. I see you approved it too, you are a good boss man! Cheers!” exulted another X user.
“When I see these types of leaves or over share, I love them. Instant approval. I don’t have to question why, and there’s only so many time they can use the excuse,” laughed a fourth.
