Investment Success: A 34-year-old man from Dharavi recently shared his journey from humble beginnings to financial success on Reddit. He recalled, “I was born and brought up in Dharavi and studied in municipal hindi medium school where some of my classmates couldn’t write their name even in 7th grade.”
Despite the challenges, he excelled academically, consistently ranking in the top two of his class until grade 10. Choosing science in grade 11 required him to switch to English, which he struggled with initially. “I struggled in 11th grade but was quick to adopt and was able to clear high school with 81%,” he wrote. This success helped him secure admission into a good engineering college in Mumbai, where he eventually landed a placement with a starting salary of 3.6 lakh per annum.
Journey to Financial Growth and Consistency
He began his investment journey in 2015 with just a single share of SBI. “I didn’t make any money in first 4 years but after Covid things changed. I cracked my first 50 LPA job in 2021 and started investing aggressively. Made my first crore in 2022 and today it’s 4 Cr despite not working for year and financing 2 marriages in family.”
The Reddit post emphasized the value of consistency and patience in wealth-building. “Not sure if I’ve achieved financial freedom but I must say it gives lot of comfort in taking life decisions as I left more than 50 LPA job. Took a year long break and rejoined again with 50 LPA. I guess key to achieve financial freedom is consistency and time.”
Lifestyle Choices That Maximized Investment
He also shared insights on his frugal approach, which helped him maximize equity investments. “I still don’t own any house/apartment or car, I guess that helped me to maximise my investment. I’m almost 90% invested in equities and don’t have any loan.”
The Reddit user concluded his post with an inspiring message for those from underprivileged backgrounds: “This post is for those coming from underprivileged backgrounds, don’t lose hope and keep working hard. Apna time aayega!!”
