A software professional has shared his experience on Reddit, alleging that he was misled by his manager despite years of hard work and dedication. The employee, who began his career as a fresher in 2021 at a product-based company, said the initial package of 13 LPA seemed promising but quickly turned into a struggle.
Long hours beyond official shifts
According to the post, he was required to work until 1 AM IST regularly, even though his official hours were between 11 AM and 8 PM to align with European time zones. “After 2-3 years of hard work, I confronted my manager about it, and the late-night work was eventually routed to others,” he wrote.
Broken promises on promotion
The employee explained that once he reached four years of experience, his manager verbally assured him of a promotion. However, the reality was different. While his salary only rose to 15 LPA, peers with the same experience were earning up to 18 LPA. He added: “The final nail in the coffin was that, forget a promotion, I was given a 0% Hike, No RSU now when I got to 4 YOE, while my colleagues received 13% – 15% hike or 10K dollars RSU. I was told that the company is in uncertain times due to AI, that I should be patient while we navigate through uncertain times and will definitely ‘try’ in next cycle.”
Ultimately, the employee claimed his manager diverted the entire retention budget toward a select group deemed critical, leaving others with “empty promises.” The post has sparked discussion online, with many professionals echoing similar workplace frustrations.
