After a video showing men driving recklessly on Delhi’s Ring Road, endangering the lives of other motorists, went viral online, Delhi Police swung into action. The police not only registered an FIR but also made arrests. What’s more, the police even seized the vehicles involved.

How did the incident come to light?

A man named Nishant, whose X (formerly Twitter) bio says that he is an advisory Committee Member of the Government of India and works as a poll strategist, recorded the video and shared it online. While tagging Delhi Police in his post, he said, “Sharing a video of individuals driving recklessly on Ring Road from ITO towards Sarai Kale Khan.”

He added that the drivers were behaving in an “extremely dangerous manner,” putting the lives of other motorists at serious risk. “They are driving in an extremely dangerous manner, putting the lives of other motorists at serious risk. This kind of reckless driving can lead to fatal accidents.”

Nishant also urged the police to take strict action against those involved and mentioned the exact date and time when the video was recorded.

What does the viral video show?

The now-viral video opens to show a group of cars speeding on Ring Road from ITO towards Sarai Kale Khan. As the video goes on, several occupants can be seen leaning out of side windows and standing through sunroofs, waving and screaming as the vehicles sped past.

The cars were also seen swerving and zigzagging across lanes, abruptly overtaking other motorists and changing lanes in an erratic manner, posing a serious risk to other road users.

Earlier, Delhi Traffic Police responded to his video, suggesting that Nishant report the traffic violation through the Delhi Traffic Police Prahari App. Nishant responded, “This is not a routine challan issue but a serious criminal offence. Immediate and strict action is required after reviewing the video.”

The police then advised him to either contact the nearest police station or dial 112 for immediate assistance.

Accused arrested. Vehicles seized’

Two days later, the DCP Central Delhi quoted his post online and confirmed that action had been taken against those who violated traffic rules.

“FIR registered. Accused arrested. Vehicles seized,” DCP Central Delhi’s post read. It added, “Thank you for bringing to the notice of Delhi Police and Delhi Traffic Police.”
