Carlos Alcaraz showed up at the Flushing Meadows with a brand new buzz cut, a big change from his usual textured hairstyle. His new look quickly caught the attention from both fans and fellow players at the US Open, with many surprised by the drastic change.

‘Thought he looked aerodynamic’: Tiafoe, fans react to Alcaraz’s new look

Even golf star Rory McIlroy, who was in New York for the tournament, reacted when he saw Alcaraz practicing. He touched the world No. 2’s head and asked him about the haircut. Alcaraz admitted he wasn’t happy with his earlier hairstyle and decided to start fresh. McIlroy told him he thought the new look suited him.

However, not everyone agreed. In a video form the US Open dressing room, that is now going viral, Alcaraz’s friend and fellow player Frances Tiafoe teased him, calling the haircut “aerodynamic” but also saying it was a terrible choice, especially coming from someone who takes pride in good haircuts himself.

“It’s horrible. It’s definitely terrible. I looked at him and I thought he looked aerodynamic. I don’t know who told him to do that, but it is terrible,” Tiafoe told the press.

Many fans on social media compared Alcaraz to “early 2000s David Beckham”. Commenting on the player’s new look, an X user asked, “Who is this person?” while another commented “That’s not Carlos”. One user also went on to remark, “Jesus Christ, Carlos knows how to shock his fans on and off the court.”
