Captain Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 97, leading Punjab Kings to a commanding total of 243/5 after being asked to bat in Match 5 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. He started aggressively, smashing Kagiso Rabada for a four and following it up with a six in the same over.

Iyer also reached a significant milestone, surpassing 6,000 runs in men’s T20 cricket. Making his Punjab Kings captaincy debut, he came agonisingly close to his maiden IPL century but remained stranded at the non-striker’s end as Shashank Singh hammered five consecutive boundaries off the final five balls, ensuring Punjab finished strong.

Despite missing out on a century, Iyer’s innings marked his highest IPL score, surpassing his previous best of 96. Meanwhile, the record for the fastest IPL century remains with Chris Gayle, who smashed a hundred in just 30 balls during his legendary 175* against Pune Warriors India in April 2013.

Among Gujarat Titans’ bowlers, Sai Kishore stood out with an impressive spell, claiming three wickets for just 30 runs.
