As the Vijay Hazare Trophy unfolds, two of India’s most decorated batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are back in action for Delhi and Mumbai respectively. Their appearances have sparked interest not just for what they mean to fans but for the very different domestic one-day numbers each holds in India’s premier List A tournament.

Virat Kohli: High impact in limited chances

Kohli’s Vijay Hazare Trophy record stands out for its efficiency more than volume. Across 17 matches for Delhi before this season, he scored 910 runs including four centuries and four fifties, at an impressive average of 60.66, a mark that underlines his class even outside the international stage, maybe that’s what got him to that stage in the first place.

Though his appearances in the tournament were limited early in his career, those numbers reflect dominance when given the chance. Kohli’s return to the competition this season (his first in nearly 15 years) adds context to these figures as he looks to maintain form ahead of India’s ODI calendar.

Rohit Sharma: Solid returns over a longer stretch

Rohit Sharma’s Vijay Hazare Trophy numbers feature a more extended but steadier profile. In 18 appearances for Mumbai prior to 2025-26, Rohit scored 823 runs at an average of 37.40, with one century and five fifties to his name.

While not as eye-catching as Kohli’s average, Rohit’s contributions came in one of Indian domestic cricket’s fiercest batting line-ups. His returns also come over more innings and the timing of his career is different than that of Kohli.
