Avatar: Fire and Ash box office collection day 5: James Cameron’s latest creation, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has become one of the biggest year-enders for Hollywood. Releasing just ahead of the holiday season, the film also gives stiff competition to Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar in India. The IMAX 3D spectacle is a once-a-year show, as it became James Cameron’s second-biggest global opening weekend so far.

James Cameron is also the only filmmaker to retain three spots among the highest-grossing Hollywood movies of all time. He dominated at the top with 2009’s Avatar at nearly $3 billion, number 3 with 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which grossed $2.34 billion, and Titanic at number four, which collected $2.26 billion worldwide.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Avatar: Fire and Ash was released in five languages – English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. With an opening day of Rs 19 crore, the Avatar threequel experienced an 18% boost on its debut weekend. Crossing the Rs 50 crore benchmark in three days, it was hit by a massive Monday slump. Facing difficulty in recovering from the single-digit collections, Avatar: Fire and Ash grossed over Rs 9 crore on Tuesday, taking the total tally to Rs 85.64 crore in India, so far.

The film became James Cameron‘s second-biggest domestic opening at $89 million in the US. Globally, it only stood behind Zootopia 2, but surpassed Lilo and Stitch. Across the Avatar franchise, it became the highest opener in Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Disney also became a frontline runner as it heads towards a $6 billion worldwide gross in 2025. This became the biggest global haul in post-COVID cinema for any Hollywood studio. In fact, Avatar 3 also became the longest-running film with a runtime of 3 hours and 17 minutes.
