India vs Sri Lanka Women 2nd T20I HIGHLIGHTS: India restricted Sri Lanka to 128/9 in the second game at Visakhapatnam, carrying the momentum of a comprehensive opening-win before chasing them down in 11.5 overs riding on Shafali Verma’s unbeaten 69 off 34, sealing a 7-wicket win. India were dominant in the first match and put on yet another clinicial display in the second fixture.
As conditions remained similar to the series opener, the hosts once again started as favourites and played like one. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, were searching for urgency and execution but could not level the series. Instead they are trailing 0-2 with the series now moving to Thiruvananthapuram.
India firm favourites but room for improvement
In the first T20I it was India’s all-round control that set the tone for the series. Their bowlers squeezed Sri Lanka through the middle overs before Jemimah Rodrigues’ fluent half-century sealed the chase inside 15 overs. It was a similar story in the second game with India restricting Sri Lanka to a modest total with Vaishnavi Sharma and Shree Charani scalping 2 wickets apiece and Sri Lanka losing 3 wickets to run outs.
Sri Lanka’s free fall after Athapaththu’s dismissal
Sri Lanka’s hopes rested heavily on captain Chamari Athapaththu, whose aggressive intent stood out even in defeat in the first T20I and even in this game. She scored 31 off 24 but once she fell in the last over of the powerplay, Sri Lanka’s batting collapsed like a pack of cards.
The visitors admitted to batting too defensively in the opener, managing just 121 after being asked to bat first but could not improve much in the second game as neither of Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama or Hasini Perera managed to bat deep.
Dew made it easier for India in second innings
With dew coming on in the second innings, batting might have become easier but it still needed some good stroke-making from Indian batters with Jemimah Rodrigies also chipping in with a 16-ball 25 other than Shafali’s blistering knock.
Here is our coverage recap of IND vs SL 2nd T20I:
India are 2-0 ahead in the series with a thoroughly professional display. They completely outplayed their opponents with the bat, ball and even on the field. If this is the level India continue to hit, Sri Lanka will have their task cut out going forward.

IND vs SL 2nd T20I: Shafali Verma bags the Player of the Match Award
Shafali Verma bagged the Player of the Match award. Here's what she said after the match: "The ball was holding a bit at the start, so I tried to play along the ground and take singles. The coach also told me how to go about in such conditions. They bowled well at the start. It was a good knock. I kept myself calm, tried to play along the ground and the ball was coming on nicely. I know I can score runs if I play the ball on the ground. Acceptance is everything, if you accept (your weaknesses) then only you become a better cricket."
IND vs SL 2nd T20I: Harmanpreet proud of her team's efforts
Harmanpreet happy with the win: "Really happy with the way we bowled today. That was the reason we wanted to bowl first. The bowlers took responsibility and put us in a really strong position early on. Later, Shafali and the other batters finished things off beautifully. Everyone in our bowling unit understands their role and is stepping up. We know what Sneh brings to this team, Deepti has been doing it for a while, but very happy with the way we bowled overall. We were all waiting for that (Vaishnavi's) maiden wicket. Even though in the last game there were a few missed chances, today she bowled a very crucial over and picked up two wickets. As I mentioned in the last post-match chat, we’ve been working really hard on our fielding. We made mistakes previously, but today the girls did really well and I’m very happy with the improvement. Before coming here, we discussed setting certain standards for ourselves as a team, and everyone is committed to that. Whoever walks out to bat knows their role and is ready to take responsibility."
IND vs SL 2nd T20I: Here's what Sri Lankan captain reflects on the game
Chamari Athapaththu after the match: "Yes, we started well in the powerplay, but unfortunately, we lost a couple of wickets and couldn’t capitalize on it again. We struggled through the middle overs and couldn’t maintain the momentum. India bowled according to their plans, and our batters tried to play their shots, but we kept hitting straight to the fielders. These are areas we definitely need to improve. If we’re batting first against India, we need at least 150 or more. We have to improve the way we handle the middle overs, rotate strike better, and still look for boundaries regularly. Right now, we need to hit more boundaries. As a bowling unit, we struggled a bit, especially with the dew. It was difficult to grip the ball as spinners and get any real turn. But as a team overall, we need to improve. On a wicket like this, you need 150-plus to have a chance. Once India get going, it’s very hard to bowl at them. Hopefully, we learn quickly, make better decisions, and things go our way next time"
