Indian para-athlete, Navdeep’s silver medal has been upgraded to the gold, in the men’s javelin F41 final, at the Paris Paralympics 2024. The decision came after the disqualification of Iranian athlete Sadegh Beit Sayah, due to non-supportive conduct. Originally, Navdeep had finished second with a throw of 47.32 meters, while Beit Sayah secured first place with a Paralympic record throw of 47.64 meters.
According to a Sports Authority of India (SAI) statement, “Iranian athlete Beit Sayah Sadegh has been disqualified. Consequently, Navdeep’s silver medal has been upgraded to gold, marking his first-ever gold in the Men’s Javelin F41 category with a personal best throw of 47.32 meters.”
In Tokyo, 2021, Navdeep finished fourth but made a strong comeback in Paris Paralympics 2024. He initially started with a foul attempt but rallied in his third attempt to set a Paralympic record with a 47.32-meter throw, eventually taking the lead.
In another notable achievement for India, Simran Sharma earned the bronze medal in the women’s 200m T12 final with a personal best time of 24.75 seconds. Cuba’s Omara Durand Elias won gold with a time of 23.62 seconds, while Venezuela’s Alejandra Perez Lopez took silver with a time of 24.19 seconds.
With these results, India has now secured 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics, including seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze.
