At the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat won bronze medal repechage match against Puerto Rican Darian Toi Cruz, earning India its sixth medal overall. By the end of the fight, Sehrawat was bleeding slightly from his nose, but he had attacked his way to a bronze medal.

The 21-year-old defeated a weary opponent with ease as Cruz continued to prolong play with strategic pauses to refuel. Sehrawat fell behind 1-0 in the first half, but he managed to gain control of the game and win thanks to a commanding eight-point lead.

With this, India currently has five bronze and one silver medals. It is also India’s first medal in wrestling in the Paris Olympics 2024.

Aman prevailed 13-5 to maintain the wrestlers’ legacy of taking home a medal from the 2008 Beijing Games, in which Sushil Kumar had placed third. Aman was scheduled to face Darian Cruz for the bronze medal after losing to Rei Higuchi, a Japanese player, in the semifinal match on Thursday.

Prior to this, Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw on Thursday. He trailed Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who broke the Olympic record with a breathtaking 92.97-meter throw to win the gold. The men’s hockey team also ended their Paris campaign on a high, beating Spain 2-1 for the bronze medal, taking India’s medal tally to five with a few days to spare
