After over two weeks of rigorous competition between nations across 32 sports with over 10,000 athletes, the Paris Olympics 2024 has come to an end.
At the time of writing this article, the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony has commenced.
This Olympics saw many firsts. Legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic won his first Olympic medal this year. Now, he is one of the few players who have completed the Golden Slam. Besides this, Caribbean country St Lucia celebrated its first-ever Olympic medal, thanks to Julien Alfred. She astonished the crowd in the women’s 100m sprint at the Stade de France, setting a national record with a time of 10.72 seconds.
India’s Vinesh Phogat became the country’s first female wrestler to reach an Olympic final before she was disqualified for being overweight.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won Gold in men’s Javelin Throw, getting the country’s first individual Gold medal at the Olympics.
Paris Olympics 2024: Final medal tally
The United States finished at the top of the medal tally with a total of 126 medals – 40 Gold, 44 Silver, and 42 Bronze. Meanwhile, China, giving tough competition to the US for the top spot, finished second with 91 medals – 40 Gold, 27 Silver, and 24 Bronze. Japan came in third with 45 medals in total.
India, however, finished on the 71th position with six medals – One Silver and five Bronze.
