World number one Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets in their French Open quarterfinal match at the Philippe Chatrier Court in Paris.
Djokovic ended the nine-time French Open champion’s reign with a 7-5, 6-3, 6-1 victory to set up a semi-final clash with Britain’s Andy Murray.
After the match, Nadal, who is considered the ‘king’ of the clay court, said that Djokovic played better than him and was in better shape, reported the BBC.
This is Nadal’s second defeat in 72 matches at Roland Garros. His previous loss came in 2009 against Sweden’s Robin Soderling.
