At just 16, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi the Indian tennis prodigy ended up making her debut at Wimbledon Juniors 2025 this month in a feat that evidently takes chasing her dreams to the next level.

The Coimbatore-born all-court playing athlete with an overall 74% win rate (as per ITF’s July 7 stats) familiarised herself with the “Game, Set, Match” jargon as early as she was eight years old. Jumping forward two years, her exceptional talent and hard work set out on their path to global recognition as she planned on going pro at the age of 10. The universe clearly caught the young star’s signal, with the coveted Rafa Nadal Academy recruiting Maaya under a scholarship in the early stages of her professional undertaking.

History-making Rafael Nadal, Sania Mirza already tied to young tennis player’s career

Rajeshwaran Revathi’s assist from the prestigious tennis academy came in 2024. Travelling to Spain, she even caught the legendary Rafael Nadal in action – who also happens to be one of her role models. The second person she seeks inspiration from is none other than India’s very own Sania Mirza.

The teen tennis star climbed the ranks on the Nadal Academy’s radar following her strong performances at International Tennis Federation (ITF) events, where she started out as a 13-year-old. Having won a couple of these matchups in Chennai and Hyderabad at the age of 14, she has already been to a few junior Grand Slam qualifiers, as per ESPN.

It was then that earned the golden opportunity to train at the academy, with an exclusive invite coming via email. Although she was initially offered a one-year contract, Infosys’ recent bid to support the 16-year-old has allowed her to continue her training at the elite academy for the next two years, according to Indian Tennis Daily on Instagram.

Back in January 2024, Rajeshwaran Revathi even received a grant of $50,000 through the Grand Slam Player Development Programme, serving as an extra push encouraging her to go the distance with her true calling.

India’s new young tennis star: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi

With a trusting foundation set by her parents, Rajeshwaran and Revathi, and first coach Manoj Kumar, the promising talent ultimately soared to the Wimbledon Juniors 2025 this month. Her big-stage debut comes shortly after her impressive hits at the Mumbai Open WTA 125 earlier this year. Having passed with flying colours at the entry-level WTA event, Maaya was hailed as the breakout star of India’s biggest women’s tennis tournament.

Making waves across junior and senior circuits, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi is the youngest Indian to earn a WTA point. At the Mumbai Open, she left seasoned players like Iryna Shymanovich, Mei Yamaguchi and former Top 50 player Zarina Diyas tongue-tied. According to the WTA website, she “is the first player born in 2009 to make this stage of a main draw at this level.”

Her current WTA ranking stands at 653, with 642 being her career high as of May 19, 2025. Meanwhile, on the ITF Junior Ranking (as of July 7) roster she comes in at 57, having achieved her current career-high at the 56th spot on January 20, 2025.

Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi’s Wimbledon Juniors 2025 run

Just days ago, Maaya Rajeshwaran successfully made it to the final qualifying round at the 2025 Wimbledon Juniors tournament. In the first round, she came out on top after a nail-biter against China’s 18-year-old Shiyu Ye.

In the following matchup, she lost to Spain’s Eugenia Zozaya Menendez. The outcome resulted in the Indian star bowing out in the final qualifying round of Wimbledon Juniors this season.

Despite the setback, India’s youngest tennis sensation was already back training at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, as per the institution’s official Instagram Story shared hours ago. Maaya also re-shared the same on her profile.
