An all-round performance by Punjab Kings helped them to not only defeat Chennai Super Kings at their home but also make a new IPL record. On Wednesday, Punjab Kings equalled Mumbai Idnians’ record of beating CSK for five times in a row. CSK skipper lost out to PBKS stand-in skipper Sam Curran in terms of toss. This was his ninth toss loss out of 10 times. Taking advantage of the dew factor, Curran chose to field first.

Ace spin attack by Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar helped Punjab in restricting CSK to a sub-par total of 162. During the after-match presentation, Gaikwad had said that he felt that they were short of 50-60 runs. Punjab spinners were very economical. For 55 deliveries after the powerplay, Chepauk didn’t see any boundary by CSK batters. This was the longest boundary drought in this edition of IPL. Chasing the target, Punjab sealed the deal with 13 balls to spare. With this win, Punjab have kept their playoff hopes alive. However, it will be a tough game for CSK now onwards. They need to win all the remaining matches to have a chance at playoff berth.
