Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins has matched Anil Kumble’s record, becoming the second captain with the second-highest number of wickets in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Cummins matches Kumble’s record
Cummins has taken 17 wickets in the ongoing IPL 2024 season, matching Kumble’s record from the 2010 season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
On Friday, Cummins achieved the landmark by taking one wicket in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match, dismissing Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
Shane Warne remains the record holder for the most wickets in an IPL season by a captain. The Australian took 19 wickets in the 2008 season with the Rajasthan-based franchise.
SRH vs RR Match: What happened yesterday?
Sunrisers Hyderabad, known as a batting powerhouse in this edition of the Indian Premier League, secured their spot in the May 26 final against the Kolkata Knight Riders thanks to their bowlers. Spin twins Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed dismantled the Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup, leading SRH to a clinical 36-run victory at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. Sharma and Ahmed combined for five wickets in eight overs, turning the game in SRH’s favor.
In the earlier part of the evening, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to field first, mindful of the potential dew factor. Renowned as the top bowling side in this IPL edition, RR put in a commendable effort, restricting SRH to 175/9. While Trent Boult (3-45), Avesh Khan (3-27), and Sandeep Sharma (2-25) played their part, the RR batters failed to deliver as expected. The Royals stumbled towards the end, and SRH emerged victorious in the match.
