Lucknow Super Giants defeated Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets in match 34 of Tata IPL 2024 on Friday. This win at home ground helped LSG in improving their tally. Now, they are at number 5 in the IPL points table. However, CSK remain at number 3 despite the loss. LSG were clinical from the word go. Winning the toss, LSG skipper KL Rahul decided to field first. CSK never stood a chance in front of LSG’s disciplined bowling efforts. No batter, even in-form Shivam Dube couldn’t do much. It was a disastrous start for CSK. Halfway into the game, the entire top order was back in the pavilion.

From Rachin Ravindra to Ruturaj Gaikwad to Shivam Dube to Sameer Rizvi, no batter could stitch together a significant partnership. It was only during the middle overs that CSK witnessed a surge in runs thanks to the partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali.  MS Dhoni’s stunning cameo brought back the memories of the Wankhede blitz. However, the competitive target of 177 was became more like walk in the park for KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. LSG openers posted team’s best 1st wicket stand in this season of IPL.

In 15th over, CSK got the breakthrough in form of de Kock’s wicket. But by then, LSG ware much ahead in the chase and by the time Pathirana removed Rahul at 82, it was more of a formality at Ekana. The sting of death overs that Pathirana has displayed so far in the season was missing today. Nicholas Pooran finished the job and LSG poste a clinical 8-wicket win with an over to spare.
