KL Rahul may step down as Lucknow Super Giants captain, a PTI report said on Thursday. The development comes a day after LSG suffered a huge loss at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad during match 57 of Tata IPL 2024. Chances of LSG qualifying for the playoffs are very slim. Rahul’s departure from LSG is also being discussed after the franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen publicly scolding him. The clip of on-camera rebuke has gone viral. Many fans have said that Rahul should leave LSG and the behaviour by team owner has crossed the lines of professionalism. The PTI report also added that Rahul is not likely to be retained by the LSG ahead of the 2025 IPL auction. In 2022, Goenka had bought Rahul during the auction for staggering Rs 17 crore.

Quoting an IPL source, the PTI report said that in case Rahul decided to focus on his batting for next two matches, the team management may not disapprove of the plan. LSG are set to face Delhi Capitals in their next IPL league match.

Clips of very angry Goenka lashing out at LSG skipepr went viral on social media after the team’s loss at Uppal. In a key IPL match on Wednesday, SRH thrashed LSG by 10 wickets in record chase. LSG’s leadership is also being questioned after Rahul’s poor show with the bat. He made just 29 runs in 33 balls. This is being seen as a key reason for LSG’s not-so-competitive total on the board.
