Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders ended the home dominance as they scored the first away win of Tata IPL 2024 on Friday. Despite Virat Kohli’s blazing 83 off 59 balls, the hosts were not able to defend the decent total of 182. None of the RCB bowlers managed to stop the KKR juggernaut as they motored the run chase in blistering fashion. Sample this – KKR slammed 85/0 in power play. This was the highest power play score of this edition of the Indian Premier League.
KKR openers Phil Salt (30 off 20 balls), Sunil Narine (47 off 22 balls) gave a solid start to the team. Narine was also adjudged the player of the match. Venkatesh Iyer (50 off 30 deliveries) made sure that the departure of the opening duo doesn’t affect the run chase. In the end, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh finished the job with 19 balls to spare.
“At this juncture, we’re not setting lofty expectations. With only two wins under our belt in the early stages of the season, it’s essential that we acknowledge our current standing and focus on cherishing each other’s achievements,” remarked KKR captain during the post-match presentation.
Gambhir-Kohli patchup
In a heartwarming moment during the match, Kohli and KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir, known for their strained relationship in the past, were spotted embracing each other warmly.
