Kolkata Knight Riders started the IPL 2024 final with a bang, reducing Sunrisers Hyderabad to 77 for seven within the first thirteen overs of the game in Chennai on Sunday.

Lowest total in an IPL final

The lowest total in an IPL final was recorded by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2013 when they managed only 125 for nine against Mumbai Indians (MI). Chasing a target of 149, CSK’s innings faltered early as MI pacer Lasith Malinga struck twice in the opening over. The other MI bowlers continued the pressure, leading to Mumbai Indians securing their first-ever IPL title.

The Lowest total defended in IPL history

In IPL 2009 at Kingsmead, Durban, CSK defended the lowest total in IPL history against PBKS. After setting a modest target of 116 runs, CSK’s bowlers rose to the occasion, restricting PBKS to just 92 for eight in their 20 overs. The standout performance came from Muttiah Muralitharan, who bowled a remarkable spell, taking 2 wickets for only 8 runs in his 4 overs.
