Everyone was waiting for Mukesh Yadav’s sensational pace during Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans match 21 at Lucknow Stadium on Sunday. Instead, fans and spectators were left enthralled by Yash Thakur’s ace bowling attack that destroyed GT’s batting and helped the home team to secure their first ever victory over the visitors in the history of the Indian Premier League. Thakur became the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in IPL 17.

The Sunday win at Ekana has bolstered LSG’s ranking to third spot in the IPL Points Table. The Sunday double-header also saw the overwhelming dominance of home sides in the Tata IPL 2024. Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at Wankhede Stadium.     

Lucknow Super Kings won the toss and skipper KL Rahul elected to bat first. GT were able to restrict the home side to 163/5. Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul were among the batters for LSG. Defending the total looked a tough task after how the GT started the chase. They were 52/0 during the power play. It looked like history would repeat itself. But then came Yash Thakur. He got the breakthrough wicket of GT captain Shubman Gill. From here on, GT kept losing wickets and never recovered. Thakur claimed wickets of Gill, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad. Apart from Thakur, Krunal Pandya also helped LSG in demolishing GT’s batting. He picked up three wickets.
