Rohit Sharma, one of the most iconic figures of the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, has expressed his dissatisfaction with his current role. The former Mumbai Indians captain, known for his aggressive style of play, recently made a statement saying he is unhappy about being used as an Impact Player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a rule that allows teams to bring in a substitute during the match. The decision, made by current captain Hardik Pandya and the team management, has apparently not gone down well with the senior batter.
“It’s something we spoke about, but 2-3 overs doesn’t make a huge difference. However, it’s not easy when you haven’t fielded for 17 overs. That’s the thought process, but I don’t mind if my team wants me to come straight in and bat,” Rohit shared during the post-match presentation.
Rohit, who played a brilliant innings in his last match against Chennai, remained unbeaten with 76 runs off 45 balls, leading his team to a 9-wicket victory. Sources suggest that Rohit has expressed discomfort with not being part of the playing XI from the start and only being used as a substitute. This decision has surprised many fans, given Rohit’s long-standing contributions to the team and his successful captaincy in previous seasons.
“It’s a special feeling to have a stand named after me where I grew up playing. I’ve always found joy in staying at the crease and finishing games. Winning three in a row shows we’re peaking at the right time,” he said.
Support for Rohit has also been voiced by fans on social media, with many questioning the decision to bench him initially. Some feel this choice could negatively affect the team’s morale and chemistry.
