Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians made a new record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday by becoming the first team to record ten victories over a single opponent at one venue. Their latest triumph over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium set a new benchmark, surpassing KKR’s nine wins over Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens.

With this milestone, Mumbai further solidified their dominance over Kolkata, marking their 24th overall victory against the franchise. This feat extends Mumbai’s record for the most wins against a single team in the tournament. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata trail behind, each having 21 wins over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings, respectively. KKR will have a chance to equal Mumbai’s record on April 26 when they face Punjab at home.

Mumbai also features prominently in this list, having defeated RCB eight times at both Wankhede Stadium and M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Chennai too boasts eight home victories against Bengaluru but missed their shot at tying KKR’s record after a crushing 50-run defeat last week.

The latest Mumbai win was powered by a stellar debut performance from Ashwani Kumar and an unbeaten 62 from Ryan Rickelton. Ashwani, a 23-year-old from Punjab’s Jhanjeri made an emphatic IPL debut, becoming the first Indian to claim four wickets in his maiden outing. His spell of 3-0-24-4 dismantled Kolkata’s formidable batting lineup, setting the stage for an eight-wicket Mumbai triumph.

As the tournament progresses, KKR will be keen to make their mark and match Mumbai’s record when they face Bengaluru on May 17. But for now, the five-time champions have once again stamped their authority in the IPL’s rich history.
