In the history of IPL, Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangaluru (RCB) became the first player to score 8000 runs today in the Eliminator round of IPL 2024. Additionally, it is the first time that RCB has qualified for playoff matches, staying alive the hopes for finals.
The record was made in the IPL Eliminator round, between RCB and Rajasthan Royals (RR), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Virat Kohli amassed an impressive 973 runs in 16 matches during IPL 2016, boasting a strike rate of 152 and an average of 81.08, including four centuries and seven fifties.
Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden had expressed his belief that Kohli could surpass this remarkable performance. Speaking with Star Sports, Hayden remarked, “We are witnessing Virat Kohli in what could be his second-best season so far. He has the potential to exceed his IPL 2016 performance given the form he’s in. More than anything, it’s his energy, love for the game, passion, and commitment—these qualities truly glorify this great man. Whether on the field or with the bat in hand, his love for the game is extraordinary; it’s crazy.”
The second-highest run-getter is Shikhar Dhawan with 6769 runs in 222 matches followed by former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma (6628 runs in 257 games).
