Delhi Capitals has roped in South African fast-bowler, Lizaad Williams, as a replacement for Harry Brook in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The English batter, Brook, withdrew from the tournament in February due to grief over his grandmother’s death. “Lizaad Williams has been signed by the Delhi Capitals as a replacement for England’s Harry Brook for the remainder of the IPL 2024,” the franchise said in a statement.
As per the reports, Williams joined Delhi Capitals at his base price of Rs 50 lakh. The 31-year-old fast-bowler made his international debut in 2021 and so far has represented South Africa in two Tests, four ODIs and 11 T20 Internationals.
However, Brook was signed by the franchisee for Rs 4 crore.
Brook, the 25-year-old cricketer, took social media to announce his withdrawal. “I lost my grandmother last month — she was a rock to me and I spent a huge amount of my childhood in her home; my attitude to life and love for cricket was shaped by her and my late grandfather,” Brook wrote. He further added that he was excited to be picked up by Delhi Capitals and was looking forward to it. “Whilst I don’t think I should need to share my personal reasons behind this decision, I know there will be many asking why. So I do want to share this,” he wrote on social media.
Brook made his debut in the IPL last season as he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In IPL 2023, he scored a 55-ball hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders. Further, he only made 190 runs in 11 matches after the franchise paid Rs 13.25 crore to acquire him.
Furthermore, Chennai Super Kings versus Kolkata Knight Riders is scheduled today at 7:30 pm. The match will take place in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. It will be exciting to watch the match as it is assumed that both the teams have equal probability of winning.
